Types of Financial Aid
There are different types of financial aid available for those who qualify. Financial aid benefits vary depending on the college you choose to attend and your financial need; visit CaliforniaColleges.Edu to find out more about what is available for you.
Grants and Scholarships
Grants and scholarships do not have to be repaid by the student or the parent. Grants are often awarded on the basis of financial need alone. Cal Grants are also available for students who graduate from high school with a GPA of 2.0 or above. Scholarships usually require certain academic achievements as well as financial need.
Educational Loans
Loans are available to students and parents. The interest rate on educational loans is commonly lower than commercial loans. These loans are often subsidized by the state or federal government or by the colleges.
Work-Study Programs
These programs provide students with part-time employment financed jointly by the federal government and the college. The jobs are often on campus and the money earned is used to pay for tuition and fees, or other college expenses.
